Oscar Pistorius ‘is now at home’ [watch]

Reeva Steenkamp’s killer, her then-boyfriend, and disgraced Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius is back home – this comes after he was released from Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in Pretoria following his successful parole bid.

Pistorius was sentenced to 13 years and five months behind bars for killing model and law graduate, Reeva Steenkamp. Steenkamp was shot four times with a licensed 9 mm pistol through a closed bathroom door in Oscar Pistorius’ home on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Pistorius only served half of his sentence before he was granted parole on 24 November 2023. According to a statement released by the Department of Corrections, the double-amputee Olympic runner has officially been released on parole and is back home.

“The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is able to confirm that Oscar Pistorius is a parolee, effectively from 5 January 2024. He was admitted the system of Community Corrections and is now at home,” the statement read.

According to Time Magazine, the Department of Corrections said that the 37-year-old who is also known as the Blade Runner will be constantly monitored by parole officials for the next five years until his sentence expires.

“Parole does not mean the end of the sentence. It is still part of the sentence. It only means the inmate will complete the sentence outside a correctional facility,” the Department of Corrections spokesman, Singabakho Nxumalo was quoted as saying.

Oscar Pistorius will serve the rest of his sentence under strict conditions at a family home in Pretoria, ABC News reported. He is expected to stay at his uncle Arnold’s mega-million rand mansion located in the upscale suburb of Waterkloof. This is said to be where he lived there during his dramatic murder trial from 2015 – 2016.
