New P50 Pro concept video shows premium smartphone with sleek camera

Let’s Go Digital recently shared new renders and video showing the possible design of Huawei’s next flagship series and the successor to the P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro Plus devices – the P50 Pro.

Rumour has it that Huawei will introduce the new series in March or April 2021. The new flagship series would rival the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra.

Huawei P50 Series: Here’s what we know

As reported by Let’s Go Digital, the P50 might feature a slightly rounded display, while the Pro model is expected to have a highly rounded “waterfall” display. That means that the P50 Pro Plus could have a “quad curved display”.

The series might also include a budget P50 Lite, which is likely as the P40 lite was released before the premium models back in 2020.

Based on the information available, Jermaine Smit (aka Concept Creator) joined forces with Let’s Go Digital to create the renders used in this article. Do note that all creative elements are used with express permission.

Smit took inspiration from the current P40 range. The Lite model is the only device in the series with a single punch-hole camera. In other devices, the punch hole selfie camera is situated in the top left corner.

“It is therefore not inconceivable that Huawei will also choose to use the top left corner for the selfie camera with the P50 Pro. But since it is a curved display, it is aesthetically just as beautiful to place the selfie camera in the middle – as Samsung does with its top models”.

Rumoured camera specifications

We don’t know much else about P50 series camera at this stage. The P40 Pro has a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 12MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

It also sports a 50 x digital zoom, and a 3D ToF camera. Only time will tell how Huawei improves on an already winning formula. That said, expets suggest that we could expect additional sensors.

Huawei P50 Pro processing power

The new series would likely be equipped with the HiSillicon Kirin 9000 chipset, similar to that of the Mate 40 series. The Kirin 9000 was designed to rival the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 found in Samsung.

This chipset is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. This could prove problematic for American consumers as the new chips aren’t approved for sale yet, thanks to Trumps trade ban.

Battery capacity is anyone’s guess at this stage, however, it should be an improvement on the previous flagship devices. It would likely also use the 135W Huawei charger, but we’ll have to wait for confirmation from Huawei.
