Venture Capital Firm a16z Backs Cambrian in Creating AI Agents for Cryptocurrency Finance
Cambrian, a startup focused on building infrastructure for AI agents with financial intelligence, has successfully secured $5.9 million in a seed funding round led by a16z’s Crypto Startup Accelerator.
Cambrian is set to join a16z’s fourth accelerator cohort, CSX 04, in San Francisco and plans to unveil its testnet and mainnet later this year, according to exclusive reports from crypto.news. The startup has also received backing from Stanford’s Blockchain Builder’s Fund and various angel investors.
The primary objective of Cambrian is to equip artificial intelligence agents and autonomous financial bots with access to verifiable, high-quality on-chain and off-chain data, enabling them to make smarter, risk-aware decisions in real time. Their network compiles information from blockchain activity, market pricing, and social sentiment, and utilizes a consensus mechanism to validate data for agents that depend on verified inputs.
Led by AI and blockchain experts
The initiative is spearheaded by Sam Green, a co-founder of Semiotic Labs and a key contributor to The Graph, where he played a vital role in securing a $60 million grant and developing infrastructure that has facilitated over $80 billion in trading volume.
Green holds a PhD in reinforcement learning and has experience working at a research laboratory within the U.S. Department of Energy.
“Crypto is rapidly progressing towards the future with autonomous financial agents, and we aim to be the premier source of financial intelligence for their high-stakes tasks,” stated Green.
Initial use cases and strategic collaborators
Cambrian’s first application is Deep42, an autonomous agent that provides DeFi insights on X (@DeepFortyTwo), showcasing the network’s capabilities.
Key partners including EigenLayer, Virtuals, and Eliza Labs are already collaborating with Cambrian to develop applications in agentic finance.
“EigenLayer AVSs provide an efficient way for developers to rapidly create verifiable runtime environments for these agents. However, verifiable financial agents also require data with strong performance and security assurances, so I am thrilled that Cambrian will be launched as an AVS. I anticipate Cambrian will play a crucial role as a verifiable sensory layer for the upcoming wave of agentic finance,” remarked Nader Dabit, Director of Developer Relations at Eigen Labs.
As Cambrian’s network evolves, it aims to establish the foundational intelligence layer for AI agents functioning within the decentralized economy. The company envisions a future where humans, AI, and nature “all thrive in harmony.”
“Cambrian’s initial steps towards that future commence with progress in agentic finance.”
