SA Mint Releases New Collection of 2026 Martial Eagle Coins

The South African Mint, fully owned by the South African Reserve Bank, has officially launched the complete 2026 Martial Eagle collection.

This collection is the second installment in the seven-coin Odyssey of the Sky series, following the introduction of the Bateleur Eagle in 2025. Crafted from 24-carat gold and 999 fine silver, the series showcases seven unique denominations, each with strict mintage limits aimed at attracting global numismatic and precious metal enthusiasts.

Mintage limits and technical specifications

The 2026 collection includes three gold denominations and four fine silver options:

Gold denominations (24ct): 1/4oz (limited to 1,000 units), 1oz (limited to 500 units), and 5oz (limited to 50 units).

The reverse of the gold coins features an intricate close-up portrait of the martial eagle, while the fine-silver coins illustrate the bird resting on a branch with its wings spread. Both designs include the inscriptions “The Odyssey” and “Martial Eagle,” along with legal-tender denominations, hallmarks, and a geometric African framing motif.

Additionally, the collection offers two exclusive Krugerrand sets: one in gold and another in silver, which pair an Odyssey of Sky coin with a specialized Krugerrand that has a Martial Eagle privy mark.

This collection is said to draw a connection between the martial eagle (Polemaetus bellicosus), the largest eagle in Africa, and the precision of high-end minting techniques.

In emphasizing the series’ position within the global numismatic market, Richard Collocott, managing director of the South African Mint, remarked: “The Odyssey of the Sky is more than just a coin series; it celebrates Africa’s remarkable birdlife and the craftsmanship that brings these narratives to life through exceptional minting. With the Martial Eagle, we extend that journey, providing collectors with another exquisitely crafted chapter in a series that is rapidly becoming one of our most unique modern collections.”

The entire 2026 Martial Eagle collection is now available for purchase through the South African Mint’s physical retail locations and online platforms.
