Police and Soldiers Conduct Raid on Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria, Arrest Over 150 ‘Zama Zamas’

Johannesburg – Law enforcement has conducted a raid at the Losberg Kloof Mine in Westonaria, leading to the detention of more than 150 individuals believed to be involved in illegal mining activities.

Gauteng Police, in partnership with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and Sibanye Protection Services, carried out Operation Prosper at the Losberg Kloof Mine earlier today, Tuesday, 7 July 2026.

The purpose of this operation is to tackle issues related to illegal mining and transnational crime within the area.
