This week, Scottie Scheffler might not be at the top of the Scottish Open leaderboard, nor will Rory McIlroy.

The defending champion Chris Gotterup, who recently celebrated a remarkable victory at the John Deere, possesses possibly the strongest credentials at the Renaissance Club as he prepares for his return.

Gotterup concluded his last round with a staggering score of 61, recovering from five behind last Sunday, marking his third victory this year and culminating in a celebrated 16-1 outcome for this column.

This recent win may prove to make Gotterup quite an attractive option this week.

At odds of 28-1, the in-form American should not be ignored. He set the course record here with a 61 last year at the beginning of his winning streak, covering many essential points.

Scottish Open 2026 betting insights

McIlroy tied for second alongside Marco Penge last year after winning the title in 2023 and following it up with a joint fourth place. His connection with this course is clear.

However, since his Masters victory, it seems world No. 2 struggles to perform well in non-Major events. This event feels more like preparation for Birkdale next week.

Scheffler, looking to defend the Claret Jug next week, may also be distracted. He tied for third here in 2023, but following an eighth-place finish last year, it seems unlikely he can surpass that performance.

Conversely, Tyrrell Hatton seemed destined to win the Scottish Open when he finished a close sixth at the Renaissance in 2023.

Hatton’s involvement in LIV kept him out of this event for the past two years, yet he could benefit now that a peace agreement has permitted him, Jon Rahm, and others to return to competition.

Hatton’s third place at the Masters and a tie for seventh in the US Open were remarkable achievements. At 33-1, he presents an excellent each-way opportunity.

Two-time US Open champion Wyndham Clark and the 2024 Scottish Open champion Robert MacIntyre have similar odds and warrant serious consideration.

Penge, having battled health issues since last year’s second-place finish, now sits just behind McIlroy in the Race to Dubai rankings.

However, a T9 finish last week at the BMW International indicates he is nearing full fitness, making him a strong bet at 66-1.

Bernd Wiesberger has proven he still possesses the necessary skills. The Austrian co-holds the course record of 61 with Gotterup and Ben An, and he also shares the 72-hole record with MacIntyre.

With a victory in China this year and a third-place finish in Munich last week—combined with his familiarity with the course—Wiesberger stands out as an enticing longshot at 200-1.

Isco Championship 2026 betting suggestions

The Isco Championship showcases golf’s lesser-known players while top talents compete in Scotland, offering less favorable betting opportunities.

If you’re interested, John Deere runner-up Max Homa is listed at 16-1 to enhance his performance. Lucas Glover seemed likely to win during the first 54 holes last week, making him a solid each-way candidate at 45-1.

The year’s fourth major, the Evian Championship, brings much more excitement.

Lottie Woad, who narrowly missed a playoff here last year and has recently climbed to fourth in world rankings, demands attention at 25-1.

World No. 3 Hyo Joo Kim just captured her fourth title in her last nine outings at the Lotte Open in Korea and is poised to carry that momentum into the Majors—making her a tempting 22-1 wager for victory in France.

Brooke Henderson, the Evian winner from 2022, seems underpriced at 66-1, while another former titleholder here, Celine Boutier, is also intriguing at 50-1.
