Ncikazi Rejects Excuses Amid Upcoming Weather Challenge at Athlone

Mandla Ncikazi, assistant coach of Orlando Pirates, highlighted the critical need to earn three points as the Buccaneers prepare to face Stellenbosch in Tuesday’s Betway Premiership match at Athlone Stadium, with their eyes set on the league title.

The Pirates approach this fixture eager to boost their title aspirations and narrow the gap at the top of the league.

Currently, Mamelodi Sundowns are leading with 64 points, while the Buccaneers sit in second place with 59 points—just five points behind, leaving little room for error as the season nears its conclusion.

This match marks the second league meeting between the two teams this season, following the Pirates’ victory over Stellenbosch in their earlier home encounter. The Soweto giants are now aiming for a league double over Stellies during this crucial phase of the title chase.

Additionally, this match holds historical importance for the Pirates, who are pursuing their first league title since the 2011/12 season.

The last visit of the Pirates to Athlone Stadium during a title race occurred on May 4, 2019, when Cape Town City thwarted their ambitions with a thrilling 2–2 draw.

As they prepare for another crucial outing to Athlone, Ncikazi reassured that the squad’s focus remains unwavering despite the anticipated challenges in Cape Town.

“Our preparations are clear—securing three points is vital,” he remarked.

“We are concentrating on the process of achieving those three points under the tough conditions expected in Cape Town. Adverse situations motivate us to perform at our peak.

“We plan to implement our strategy effectively and outscore the opposition. With the current morale at the club and the players’ preparedness, I’m confident we can triumph over Stellenbosch.”

A victory for the Pirates will not only keep their title hopes alive but also apply pressure on Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership table.
