The 36-year-old was unseated from his horse, Sunny Swing, during the Prix Jack Barbe hurdle race on Sunday.
De Giles fell to the ground after Sunny Swing stumbled over a jump.
He sustained several serious injuries from the incident, including two broken legs and a fractured arm.
Additionally, he fractured his femur and dislocated his hip.
Currently, he is recovering in a hospital in Paris.
It is anticipated that De Giles will be sidelined for approximately six months.
From his hospital bed, he remarked: “My arm doesn’t hurt much, but my legs are quite swollen.
“Regrettably, I was conscious during the entire event.
“I could see my right leg was broken, but I can’t recall how both legs got injured. They successfully repaired everything in one surgery, addressing my arm, both legs, and hip. I hope this will be the last surgery I need.
Racegoers were in stitches as a random spectator named Pat interrupted a live TV interview
“I must remain lying down for three weeks.
“Due to the hip injury, I can’t sit up in a wheelchair, and it’s uncertain whether I will stay here or be transferred to a hospital closer to home. That decision is still pending.
“I likely would have competed for the jockeys’ title [which concludes on January 31] since I generally perform well at Cagnes and Pau during winter, but that’s just a thought from the past.”
