Gqeberha SAPS Discovers R28 Million Worth of Drugs and Arrests Three in Coega Raid

The Gqeberha Flying Squad of the South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a major impact on the illegal drug trade, seizing narcotics valued at nearly R28.7 million and arresting three suspects on Thursday, 2 October 2025, within the Coega industrial area.

While conducting routine patrols along the M17, the Gqeberha Flying Squad personnel noticed a white Toyota RAV4 parked at the side of the road.

Officers witnessed two individuals transferring large bags from nearby bushes and loading them into the vehicle. When interrogated, the driver claimed he had no knowledge of what was in the bags.

A search of the vehicle revealed three large packages of dagga, as well as boxes containing crystal meth and cocaine.

The seizure consisted of 164 kilograms of dagga, worth approximately R21,320,000, over 10 kilograms of uncut crystal meth valued at R2,281,950, and more than 2 kilograms of cocaine estimated at R5,097,000—totaling a street value of R28,698,950.

Suspects Face Drug Dealing Charges

The three suspects, aged between 35 and 38, were swiftly taken into custody and are facing charges related to drug possession and dealing. They are anticipated to appear in court at the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court soon.

Authorities have called this operation one of the most significant drug busts in the Eastern Cape in recent months, effectively halting a potential supply chain of dangerous narcotics targeted at local communities.

Major General Vuyisile Ncata, Eastern Cape District Commissioner, praised the officers for their keen awareness and quick action.

“This seizure has undoubtedly thwarted the distribution of these drugs within our communities, preventing chaos. We will continuously pursue operations against drug dealers and organized crime groups,” said Maj Gen Ncata.

The SAPS calls on the public to assist law enforcement by reporting any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or organized crime in their neighborhoods.
