Fatal Head-On Collision on N2 in Mpumalanga Claims Four Lives Sunday Morning

eMkhondo (previously known as Piet Retief) – A devastating head-on collision on the N2 in eMkhondo, Mpumalanga, has resulted in the fatalities of four people, while two others have suffered serious injuries.

The tragic incident took place on the morning of Sunday, 5 October 2025, involving a blue VW Polo and a white Ford Ranger bakkie.

As stated by Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison, three of the deceased—two males and one female—were passengers in the VW Polo.

The fourth victim, a female pedestrian, was discovered close to the wreckage of the bakkie.

The injured individuals, including the bakkie driver and a child, were passengers in the bakkie and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital.

Mmusi mentioned that the cause of the collision is presently under investigation by the relevant authorities.

“The inquiry into the accident is ongoing; however, reckless driving cannot be ruled out at this stage,” Mmusi remarked.

Jackie Macie, MEC for Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison, conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to the survivors.

“Motorists need to remain alert while driving,” Macie urged.

“Every driver must comply with traffic regulations to ensure their own safety and that of others on the road to avert unnecessary loss of life and severe injuries.”
