Woman Dies in Minibus Crash on R61 Near Corana, Eastern Cape
Mthatha – A woman in her 20s has sadly lost her life in a minibus taxi accident on the R61 heading towards Mthatha, near the Corana area in the Eastern Cape.
According to ALS Paramedics, the fully loaded taxi lost control and rolled over several times, causing some passengers to be ejected.
At least 14 individuals suffered injuries during the incident, which occurred around 20:30 on Heritage Day, Wednesday, 24 September 2025.
Upon their arrival, ALS Paramedics from Mthatha, together with EMRS, encountered considerable chaos.
“A fully loaded taxi lost control and rolled multiple times, ejecting some passengers,” reported ALS Paramedics.
“A triage system was quickly implemented, and additional ambulances were called for assistance.”
A female passenger, believed to be in her 20s, sustained critical injuries.
“While paramedics worked to stabilize her at the scene, she went into cardiac arrest and, despite resuscitation efforts, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene,” shared ALS Paramedics.
“Fourteen other patients were stabilized at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for necessary treatment.”
“At this time, the circumstances surrounding the accident are unclear; however, the SAPS [South African Police Service] were present and will conduct an investigation.”
