Khoza Aims for Betway Premiership Glory Following Historic MTN8 Victory
After Orlando Pirates achieved their remarkable fourth consecutive MTN8 title victory, club director Mpume Khoza highlighted the imperative next objective: clinching the prestigious Betway Premiership.
The Buccaneers secured their win in the Wafa Wafa Cup with an impressive 3-0 performance against Stellenbosch FC, triumphing after extra time at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, following what initially unfolded as a tactical battle.
This marks the first victory for coach Abdelsam Ouaddou, who took the helm after the esteemed Jose Riveiro, a three-time champion of this event.
“First and foremost, we owe our gratitude to our supporters, our 12th man who drives us forward,” Khoza expressed in an interview with SuperSport TV.
The Pirates have been runners-up to Mamelodi Sundowns for the past three seasons, a team that has consistently demonstrated its winning prowess, in contrast to the Buccaneers.

Khoza continued, “Additionally, we must recognize the commitment of our team, coaches, and players. At the start of our preseason, led by our chairman [Irvin Khoza], it seemed like a gamble, however, his investment has proved fruitful, and we are grateful for the victories we’ve attained in competitions like this. We remain optimistic that as we enter the league, all will align perfectly.”
This win signifies the 14th top-eight trophy in the history of the club and their fifth in the last six seasons. Khoza emphasized that the management’s responsibility is to enhance the club’s legacy by securing further championships.
“As our chairman has rightly pointed out, our duty is to continually enrich the history of Orlando Pirates,” Khoza noted.
“The recent signings, including our young captain Mbekezeli Mbokazi, marking our fourth consecutive title reflects our dedication to the club’s legacy, which is vital to us.”
