Senator Ted Cruz to Discuss Strategic Collaboration on U.S.-Africa Energy Initiatives

Cape Town – African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies, the premier energy event in Africa, is preparing to feature U.S. Senator Ted Cruz as a distinguished speaker for its 2025 edition.

Senator Cruz, a significant voice on the U.S. Senate Commerce and Foreign Relations Committees, stands among Washington’s leading authorities on energy matters. He will address delegates in Cape Town, focusing on the strategic necessity of bolstering U.S. commercial and diplomatic ties within African energy markets.

As global powers vie for energy and vital mineral supply chains, Senator Cruz’s participation underscores a broader U.S. initiative to strengthen relationships with African energy producers, particularly as the continent emerges as a crucial source of hydrocarbons, LNG, and transitional minerals.

From Nigeria to Namibia, American firms are ramping up their operations, even as competition from China, Russia, and other countries intensifies, leading to renewed interest from U.S. lawmakers and policy leaders.

On the exploration and production front, prominent U.S.-based companies such as ExxonMobil, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Vaalco Energy are at the forefront of transformational projects across the African continent.

ExxonMobil is enhancing output from various producing fields, including the Erha and Owowo fields in Nigeria and the Kizomba deepwater development in Block 15, Angola.

In the gas sector, ExxonMobil is spearheading projects like the Rovuma LNG initiative in Mozambique, targeting an annual output of 18 million tons.

The company is poised to finalize its investment decision in 2026.

Moreover, Chevron is advancing exploration efforts in West and Southern Africa, with initiatives in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, offshore Blocks EG-06 and EG-11 in Equatorial Guinea, and the Walvis Basin in Namibia.

The firm has also enhanced gas production capabilities in Angola through the Sanha Lean Gas Connection Project, alongside the forthcoming New Gas Consortium project.

Houston’s ConocoPhillips aims to achieve production levels between 600,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 700,000 bpd at the Waha concession in the Sirte Basin.

They are prioritizing collaborations, work-over programs, and pipeline integrity at this concession, which currently produces 375,000 bpd.

Another Houston-based firm, Vaalco Energy, is upgrading FPSO infrastructure in Africa to foster production growth.

Active in Ivory Coast and Gabon, it plans drilling campaigns for 2026 and 2025, respectively.

In Egypt, Vaalco Energy has introduced five wells to production in 2025, while in Equatorial Guinea, it expects to achieve first oil at Block P in 2026.

U.S.-based service companies are also expanding their presence throughout the African market.

Baker Hughes has established operations in markets such as Nigeria and Namibia, delivering top-tier oilfield services and skills development programs.

NOV is involved in strategic initiatives across the African energy value chain, spanning offshore exploration, production, processing, and logistics.

Focusing on digitalization and efficiency, Halliburton supports various projects in the African energy sector.

The company offers advanced technology solutions aimed at enhancing production efficiency and optimizing resource extraction.

Senator Cruz’s participation in AEW: Invest in African Energies is expected to significantly strengthen U.S.-Africa energy relations.

Renowned for his strong advocacy for energy independence and market-driven growth, Senator Cruz’s address is likely to underscore the importance of increasing private-sector investment, supporting American energy enterprises operating in Africa, and improving energy infrastructure aligned with African development goals and U.S. strategic interests.

This engagement follows recent signals from Washington, including bipartisan calls for enhanced energy cooperation with Africa, as the U.S. aims to reestablish its influence in a region crucial to global energy security.

“Being a Senator from Texas, Senator Cruz not only grasps the importance of oil and gas for Texas’s economy but also for Africa’s transformation.

His interactions with energy industry stakeholders and African leaders convey a powerful message: the U.S. is committed to playing a substantial role in the future of African energy.

He understands the stakes—from gas deals to infrastructure projects—and his presence demonstrates America’s seriousness in competing, investing, and being proactive where it matters,” remarks NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber. He adds that Senator Cruz acknowledges that the path to economic prosperity for African nations lies in embracing free markets, minimizing government intervention, promoting individual accountability, and upholding the rule of law.

“We at the AEC firmly believe that markets—not pseudointellectuals—should guide the future and encourage innovative growth and development,” he emphasizes.

His involvement aligns with the aspirations of African nations to scale production, expand infrastructure, and attract capital to meet growing domestic and global energy needs.

The U.S., with its technological expertise and investment capabilities, is poised to play a vital role in supporting Africa’s ambitions, from deepwater exploration to gas-to-power projects and beyond.

With substantial discoveries in oil, gas, and hydrogen, coupled with a wave of African governments prioritizing energy security and local value addition, the continent is positioned for strategic partnerships rooted in mutual benefit and lasting impact.

As AEW: Invest in African Energies 2025 approaches, Senator Cruz’s participation is anticipated to galvanize support for deeper U.S. engagement in African energy markets, sending a clear message to American firms: Africa is open for business, and the U.S. is ready to compete.

His presence is expected to draw increased interest from private investors, service providers, and project developers eager to explore new upstream and infrastructure opportunities throughout the continent.
