Eskom reduces load-shedding to Stage 2
Johannesburg – Eskom is set to lower load-shedding to Stage 2 starting tomorrow morning.
In a brief announcement made late Monday (24 February 2025), the power utility stated: “Stage 4 load-shedding will remain in effect until 5:00 AM on Tuesday.”
Eskom further elaborated: “After that time, load-shedding will be adjusted to Stage 2 until further notice.”
“This move comes after successfully recovering eight out of ten generation units, with 3 808MW restored from units that tripped over the weekend, and an additional 1 146MW expected to be recovered overnight.”
Eskom noted that while progress in recovering emergency reserves is promising, further replenishment is necessary to achieve adequate levels.
“These encouraging trends reflect our continuous efforts to stabilize the power supply and enhance reliability,” said Eskom.
“At present, unplanned outages amount to 13 690MW, which exceeds our summer outlook base case of 13 000MW by 690MW.”
“Ongoing planned maintenance is currently at 7 245MW, consistent with our summer maintenance strategy, which is elevated to prepare for winter and comply with licensing and regulatory obligations.”
