Sold out! Saffas snap up ‘Miss Universe Nigeria’ Temu crown

When it comes to being petty, South Africans stoop to a whole new low. This was evident when scores of citizens bought up stock of a Temu replica crown believed to have been worn by Miss Universe Nigeria winner Chidimma Adetshina.

According to social media users, the pageantry piece of jewellery is said to be worth less than R100.

TEMU REPLICA IS SOLD OUT!

Following the crowning of Chidimma Adetshina as the Miss Universe Nigeria winner, scores of social media users reposted images of a replica of the crown she was given off the Chinese fast-fashion site Temu.

The lookalike costume jewellery –  which cost less than R100 – featured faux emerald gemstones glued to a diamante crown. According to TikToker @tshego_sojie, the replica is now sold out on Temu. This, after South Africans rushed to buy up the remainder of its stock.

She said: “People are going to be wearing this crown next week during their Live videos. Only South Africans will be wearing this”.

In the comment section, many TikTokers agreed.

@nompilo: “Everyone will be Miss Universe Nigeria.”

@Zeezann: “I’m sure Temu was thinking, ‘What the heck is going on in SA?”.

@kgotso: “At groove, we will all be queens.”

@tumelomabena: “My niece will be wearing it for career day next week.”

WHO DESIGNED THE MISS UNIVERSE NIGERIA CROWN?

While many are inclined to believe that Miss Universe Nigeria organisers purchased the crown off Temu, this has neither been confirmed nor denied by the pageant.

However, one would be inclined to think it is untrue, given jeweller Kiki Chiori of Kiki Lucas Jewelry actually designed that last year’s crown.

Kiki created the crown for the first Miss Universe Nigeria – Michelle Oguchi – after SilverBird Group acquired the license last year.

She told Business Day Nigeria: “The crown itself serves as a symbol of the beauty, elegance, and unwavering strength of Nigerian women. Throughout the design process, I dedicated myself entirely to this project. I drew inspiration from the rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes of Nigeria.”
